mooncycles1 Stunning work. Everything on this album is! Highly evocative of the forces of Nature, particularly of Australian coastlines, this work also takes the listener on powerful inward journeys. The sheer beauty of the powerfully evolving resonances leaves one spellbound. Seamless teamwork! Favorite track: "voids of spellbound blue".

about

Simone and I have known one another for over 50 years and performed together in different contexts, ranging from the Australian Youth Orchestra to the contemporary music ensemble Flederman. Having diverged in different directions and not collaborated musically for some 30 years, Wave Resonance was realised through exchanges of ideas and sound files between Fremantle (Western Australia) and Mullumbimby (Eastern Australia).

The results of these exchanges reflect our mutual love of sound, the ocean and free-flowing improvisations inspired by the music and artists we have encountered during our long careers.

Simone's trombone explorations and articulations find a home in the resonance of gongs and singing bowls (both struck, bowed, rubbed and dipped in water)), metal bowls filled with water along and some additional electronic processing. Ocean sounds were recorded by Simone close to his home.

The track titles are taken from Samuel Beckett's translation of Arthur Rimbaud's poem "Le Bateau Ivre" ("The Drunken Boat"). Photography accompanying each track by Simone de Haan.
